Soon after originating in San Antonio, Alamo Tamales moved to Houston. That was over 50 years ago. Today, the owners continue to use recipes passed down by their grandmothers, and all dishes are made fresh daily. Tamale flavors include chicken, spinach, and spicy pork. The restaurant opens daily at 6:00 a.m. If you are on the go, place your order at the drive-thru (closes at 1:30 p.m.).

Berryhill Baja Grill

A Houston staple since 1928, Berryhill is famous for its house-made tamales. They once sold for twenty cents a dozen and are still made with the same recipe as when the restaurant opened. The tamales are served traditionally in the husk with a side of sauce. Choices include beef, chorizo, and spinach & corn.

Balderas Tamale Factory

When Michael Balderas decided to follow in his father's footsteps, he quit his machinist job and started selling tamales. He and his wife worked in their home kitchen and sold their creations along the streets of Houston. The couple later opened the Balderas Tamale Factory and had to expand several times to keep up with the demand. Tamale offerings include pork, chicken, and bean cheese.
