Brenner's Steakhouse 

A Houston fixture since 1936, Brenner's Steakhouse was the dream of Herman and Lorene Brennan. Today, the restaurant is famous for its "delectable cuisine, award-winning wines, and cozy, yet elegant atmosphere." For dinner, enjoy the center-cut filet mignon. It's best enjoyed with French green beans and au gratin potatoes, and you will want to save room for a delectable dessert. 

Barbecue Inn

For over 70 years, the Barbecue Inn is where four generations of families have walked through the doors. Guests always enjoy old-fashioned hospitality, and everyone is invited to pull up  a chair and stay awhile. Offerings include St. Louis-style ribs, stuffed crabs, and chicken fried steak. 

James Coney Island 

When James Coney Island opened in 1923, "young kids were dancing the Charleston, and Babe Ruth hit two home runs in a World Series game." Founders Tom and James Papadakis were born in Greece. They immigrated to New York in the early 1900s and later came to Houston, where they opened the restaurant with little money. A coin toss decided the name, and originally, the hot dogs sold for just a nickel. Along with the hot dogs, the menu also includes Greek salads, Frito pie, and barbecue bacon cheddar burgers.
